The Director for Health Promotion & Protection of WHO in EMRO Region Visits INCAS

TUMSPR News: Based on a report by the Public Relations of the Iranian National Center for Addiction Studies (INCAS), Dr. Haifa Madi, WHO’s Regional Director for Health & Protection from Cairo, Egypt visited the center on August 4, 2008.


Dr. Faifa Madi, the Regional Director for Health & Protection visited the Iranian National Center for Addiction Studies (INCAS) on August 4, 2008.

During the visit from epidemiology department and cognitive laboratory of the center, Dr. Razaghi, the head of INCAS, declared the center’s readiness for more collaborations with the World Health Organization (WHO).

The only joint project with WHO in its second year of progress, MENAHRA which is the acronym for Harm Reduction in the Middle East and North Africa, was introduced by Dr. Mohsenifar.

INCAS is a research center under Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS).

MENAHRA aims to develop harm reduction in the Middle East and North Africa. MENAHRA comprises three sub-regional knowledge hubs responsible for capacity building, training, advocacy and documentation, and a Network linking people working in this field.

Soins Infirmiers et Developpement Communautaire (SIDC) in Beirut hosts the sub-regional hub for Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Yemen and the Persian Gulf States. The Iranian National Center on Addictions (INCAS) hosts the sub-regional hub for Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. Ar-Razi Hospital in Rabat hosts the sub-regional knowledge hub for Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and possibly Libya.

The project is supported by the World Health Organization and International Harm Reduction Association with financial support from the Drosos Foundation in Switzerland.
