Autopsy Results at TUMS’ Bahrami Children’s Hospital

TUMSPR News: According to a report by the Public Relations of Bahrami Children’s Hospital, the Autopsy Results of patients at the Hospital has been published by the Indian Journal of Pediatrics in June, 2008.


Diagnostic Utility of Autopsy in a University Hospital in Iran" is the title of the published article authored by Dr. Payman Salamati, Dr. Afshin Abdi-Rad, Dr. Mehdi Ale Hossein, Dr. Soheila Sarmadi and Dr. Kambiz Sotoudeh from Bahrami Children’s Hospital.

The authors evaluated eighty-four autopsies during a-six-year period from 1998 to 2003. They showed in 61 cases (73%) the autopsy diagnoses confirmed the clinical diagnosis, in 10 cases (12%) it changed the clinical diagnosis, in 11 cases (13%) it significantly added to clinical diagnosis and in two cases (2%) it was inconclusive. The study demonstrated that neonatal and infantile autopsies continued to provide clinically useful data in 25% of cases and it remains an invaluable tool in pediatrics.
