TUMSPR News: Tehran University of Medical Sciences will host students in the field of medical sciences from around the country to hold the third Medical Sciences Olympiad on September 9, 2011.
Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) will host students in the field of medical sciences from around the country to hold the third Medical Sciences Olympiad on September 9, 2011.
The first such Olympiad was held in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) in August 2009 and Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS) followed the year after.
Trying to fill the gap between the educational systems of about 46 medical universities in the country, these Olympiads specifically aim to:
1. Foster a movement to attain the 20-year plan of the country,
2. Identify gifted students
3. Encourage students
4. Direct scientific extracurricular activities
5. Boost scientific spirit of the students
6. Encourage cultural exchange between universities
In these Olympiads students from different fields of med sciences form teams and creatively solve problems that are common to the state’s health system or that of the world.
The values ruling these Olympiads are:
1. Giving value to creative and critical thinking
2. Being oriented with health system objectives
3. Encouraging team work
4. Creating a competitive and cheerful atmosphere
5. Honoring scientists and observing Islamic values
