TUMS Erects a Field Hospital in a Slum Area in Tehran

TUMSPR News: Tehran University of Medical Sciences erects a field hospital at Ghiamdasht area, in southern Tehran, to serve the patients, practice rapid deployment, says TUMS Chancellor on September 12, 2011.


The field hospital erected by Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) at Ghiamdasht area, in southern Tehran was inaugurated by Dr. Vahid-dastjerdi, the Ministry of Health, Dr. Bagher Larijani, TUMS Chancellor, Mr. Tamadon, Tehran Governor, Dr. Imami-razavi, Vice-minister for Treatment, Dr. Pourmand, the Head of Sina Hospital which is one of TUMS oldest and largest trauma hospitals, and some other authorities on September 12, 2011.

Dr. Larijani justified the deployment as an opportunity to serve the people there and rehearse rapid deployment. On choosing Ghiamdasht area, he said that despite residence of large populations in the suburban areas of Tehran these areas lack proportional health coverage. He added that the University should have the capability for erecting field hospitals in times of crisis in addition to provision of health services to people living in suburban areas of Tehran.

The Chancellor said the hospital would operate for two weeks and the University sought to establish some other similar hospitals in the future by the help of the Mobilization Office of Tehran Medical Society.

A mobile facility for the screening of breast cancer would also operate in the hospital.
