The Third Medical Sciences Student Olympiad Kick Starts at TUMS

TUMSPR News: The third Medical Sciences Student Olympiad commenced at Razi Congress Hall at Tehran University of Medical Sciences by the participation of about 600 students in different fields of medical sciences on Friday September 9, 2011.


The third Medical Sciences Student Olympiad commenced at Razi Congress Hall atTehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) by the participation of about 600 students from 46 medical sciences universities across the country on Friday September 9, 2011.


In his opening speech, Dr. Kamran Soltani Arabshahi, the secretariat of the congress, said the occasion was to promote students to socialize and make new acquaintances in a scientific atmosphere to produce knowledge to advance the country, direct scientific extracurricular activities, boost spirit, and to become oriented about the health system.

The secretariat of the Olympiad added that an innovative category in the field of medical ethics has been suggested by TUMS Chancellor, D. Bagher Larijaniin to the three previous categories including clinical reasoning in outpatient settings, critical thinking in basic sciences – neurology – and management in the health system.


In his speech, TUMS Chancellor, Dr. Bagher Larijani, said Olympiads could serve our purpose in developing educational and research environments and talented students could help the University prosper as they could make more efforts to respond to the gaps in the health system in the country.
Referring to the neglected capacities in the Universities, the Chancellor said a great scientific growth was not out of reach by the addressing those capacities by the students.

He finally wished the students a great time and stay at the University.


Dr. Mohagheghi, the vice-minister for Education of the Ministry of Health, as the final word said the prosperity of a country, its greatness and its people’s dignity all rooted in universities and the look to scholars should be a major strategic one to fulfill the aspirations of the country by this great asset.

He also said the Olympiads were a [scientific] arena accompanied by spirituality, ethics and great efforts and it had better follow a spiritual model that it does not allow laziness or negligence.
