TUMS Pushes for Better Results at Essential Sciences Indicators
Date: 1/11/2011
TUMSPR News: Based on the recent release of Essential Sciences Indicators (ESI), Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) has leaped 24 ranks up by doing better in clinical medicine and pharmacology-toxicology fields.
In the latest release of Essential Sciences Indicators (ESI) in January 1, 2011, which has covered scholarly publications and their citations in the Journals indexed by Web of Knowledge since January 1, 2000 to October 31, 2010 Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) has progressed 24 ranks higher by doing better in clinical medicine and pharmacology-toxicology fields.
Globally, TUMS has ranked 1493 and in clinical medicine and pharmacology-toxicology it has ranked 1086 and 353, respectively. Both fields have had a 21 and 5 rank betterment compared to the previous release.
The basis for the present ranking is the analysis of the data gathered from the top 1% articles with most citations in the Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge.
The most cited article in clinical medicine for Iran (289 citations) has been coauthored by one of TUMS faculty members, the website indicates -- EARLY LIFE RISK FACTORS FOR OBESITY IN CHILDHOOD: COHORT STUDY, British Medical Journal, 330 (7504): 1357-1359 JUN 11 2005.
Although TUMS publishes 44 scholarly journals, among which 9 have been indexed in Web of Knowledge, 2 in MedLine, 19 in SCOPUS, and 17 in Proquest, the present ranking has just evaluated the tip of the iceberg and a wider inclusion criterion would provide a fairer assessment.
Nationally, Iran has again ranked 40th and in clinical medicine and pharmacology-toxicology it has achieved the 43rd and 35th places respectively.
