TUMSPR News: The 16th Razi Research Festival which is dedicated to appreciating research in medical sciences was held on January 10, 2011 and Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) won 43% of the awards in this national competition.


The 16th Razi Research Festival which is dedicated to appreciating research excellence in medical sciences was held on January 10, 2011 and Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) won 43% of the awards in this national competition.

13 research centers, 451 researchers, 83 junior researchers, 106student researchers and one researcher residing abroad – a total of 660 – participated in the festival and 44 awardees were honored. 27% of the researchers were female and 73% male. TUMS share of the awards was 19 including:

Seyed Mohammad Tavangar (Associate professor, pathologist): “Expression of Galectin-3, nm-23 and Cyclooxygenase-2 (cox-2) could potentially discriminate between benign and malignant pheochromocytoma”

Seyed Reza Majdzadeh (Professor, DVM and epidemiologist): “Knowledge transfer in Tehran University of Medical Sciences: An academic example of a developing country”

Sedighe Sadat Tavafian (PhD in health education): “A randomized study of Back school in women with chronic low back pain: Quality of life at three, six and twelve months follow up”

Mehdi Mohebali (Professor, DVM, MPH, PhD in parasitology): “ntegrate leishmaniasis surveillance system in primary care for children in Meshkin-shahr district, north-western Islamic Republic of Iran”
