Afghan Antinarcotic Minister Visits Tehran Psychiatry Institute

TUMSPR: The Antinarcotic Minister of Afghanistan, Mr. Zerar Ahmad Mothball visited Tehran Psychiatric Institute and engaged in talks with the authorities there on Dec. 29, 2009.


Based on the news by the Public Relations of Tehran Psychiatric Institute that is affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), the antinarcotic Minister of Afghanistan, Mr. Zerar Ahmad Mothball visited the Center on December 29, 2009 and talked with the authorities there to seek the possibility of holding psychology and psychiatry courses regarding the treatment of narcotic addiction for physicians in Afghanistan.

Dr. Jafar Bolhary, the head of the institute, welcoming the move for collaboration, said, “As Tehran Psychiatric Institute is one of the Centers of Excellence in Iran, we would also like to have educational and research ties with you and know each others capabilities in psychological health domains”.

Being counting as one of the main centers in the Middle-East, the institute is active in social harm reduction, narcotic addiction management and educational aspects, Dr. Bolhari added that the institute has close cooperation with national and international organizations.

Dr. Bolhary believed narcotic addiction is one of the health challenges in the region and it prevalence has increased in recent years and hoped by cooperation with neighboring countries steps for its eradication and control be taken.
