Inclusion of Social Subjects in the World of Medicine a Need rather than a Must

TUMSPR News: TUMS Chancellor, Dr. Bagher Larijani emphasized the need to include social subjects in medical discussions as a great number of medical decision making processes were not necessarily mere medical entities in a symposium participated by academics on August 6 2011.
Dr. Bagher Larijani, the Chancellor for Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), emphasized the need to include social subjects in medical discussions as a large number of medical decision making processes were not necessarily plain medical subjects such as medical ethics and social discussions in a symposium entitled "Thought Ceremony" participated by academics on August 6 2011.
On the promotion of the faculties, the Chancellor hoped the project could bring about the opportunity for the academics to have a look at other fields beyond their own field of expertise.
On the establishment of the institutes Medical Ethics and History of Medicine Research Center in the past, he said it was common belief at that time that a lot of medical decisions were not exclusively medical but social or the way was looked at death were not the kind of subjects that could be found in medical texts.
He added that the Iranian Journal of Medical Hypotheses and Ideas had been being published in the past two years by the School of Medicine and revival of traditional medicine was not a treat to modern medicine but an option to choose a better approach for the management of diseases.
Referring to the state’s scientific map, the Chancellor said multidisciplinary approach had been encouraged in the newly adopted map which intends to promote the country scientifically.
