Dr. John Hamilton Meets with TUMS Chancellor for Curriculum Revision

TUMSPR News: Dr. John Hamilton, the former Dean of Medicine at the University of Newcastle, Australia met Dr. Bagher Larijani to talk about the ongoing curriculum revision at TUMS School of Medicine on May 11, 2011.
Professor John Hamilton, the former Dean of Medicine at the University of Newcastle, Australia, met with Dr. Bagher Larijani, TUMS Chancellor, to brief the attendees, including the director of the International Relations Office, Dr. Ghazi-khansari, the manager of the Center for Research and Development of Education, Dr. Djalili, on the progress the university was making in revising its curriculum for medical education.
Dr. Hamilton’s 2-day tentative agenda before meeting with the chancellor had included discussing the proposed plans for basic sciences, clerkship and internship phases, fundamentals of clinical medicine, evaluation of the new program and relevant vertical integrated themes.
Appreciating the volume of undertaken activities in the School of Medicine, Dr. Hamilton put the emphasis on the participation of faculty members in the process of curriculum revision and correction of student evaluation mechanisms and persuasion of faculties and students for evidence-based medicine approaches and professional commitment in the scientific society.
Thanking Dr. Hamilton for his supervision, Dr. Larijani said the present time situation was unique in its kind as the curriculum revision was supported both by the authorities at the university and from authorities responsible for the state’s medical education. He said the revised program would be implemented at the 2011-2012 academic year.
