TUMS Holds Substance AbuseTreatment Workshops for Afghan Physicians

TUMSPR News: Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) is holding substance abuse treatment workshops with an emphasis on agonist therapy for Afghan physicians in collaboration with WHO.


WHO Collaboration Center for Mental Health in Tehran Psychiatric Institute (TPI) which is affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) has organized training courses on psychiatric and psychological aspects of addiction treatment for Afghan physicians in accordance and cooperation with the Office for Treatment and Social Support of the Iran Drug Control Headquarters.

The first group of the physicians have begun their course since April 17, 2011 in TPI. The course includes a four-day educational program for the trainees, which focuses on the basics of substance abuse treatment using agonist medications as well as on current treatment programs in DIC and MMT centers.
