International Osteoporosis Foundation Elects TUMS Chancellor as a Member of the Committee of Scientific Advisors

TUMSPR News: According to the news by TUMS EMRI Public Relations, the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) has elected TUMS Chancellor, Dr. Bagher Larijani, as a member of its Committee of Scientific Advisors (CSA).


According to the news by TUMS EMRI Public Relations, the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) has elected Dr. Bagher Larijani, the Chancellor for Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), as a member of its Committee of Scientific Advisors (CSA) in its recent elections for 4 years.

IOF is a nonprofit and non-governmental foundation established in 1998. The headquarters of this foundation is in Switzerland. It has been granted Roster Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. IOF is comprised of three committees, Committee of 196 National Societies (CNS) in 92 locations (countries, territories or regions), Committee of Scientific Advisors (CSA) comprising 115 members and Committee of Corporate Advisors (CCA) representing 31 companies. The IOF organizes its programs, projects and activities within five areas, in science, the IOF family, policy, outreach and education and administration and finance.

The CSA is one of IOF's core membership committees. It consists of expert members in the field of osteoporosis from the medical and scientific community. The objectives of the CSA are to advise the Board in all scientific matters related to the Foundation, further the clinical and basic research objectives of the Foundation, support national policy changes and provide recommendations for practice in the care of osteoporosis on a global dimension. Membership to this committee of dedicated professionals worldwide is based on scientific merit and offers the opportunity to participate in IOF working groups and multinational research projects.

TUMS Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute (EMRI) is an active member of IOF since 2002 and Dr. Larijani, director and chief scientific officer of EMRI, has actively involved in public and professional education by organizing national and international events and initiating Osteoporosis Research Center within the institute with more than 20 researchers and scientific staff. Due to Dr. Larijani`s achievements in the area of education, research and management of osteoporosis he was elected as CSA member in the recent Committee of Scientific Advisors elections for 4 years. It is the first time that an Iranian expert joins as a member of this Committee.
