TUMSPR News: The 2nd International Congress on Recent Advances in Medical Sciences held by Dr. Alireza Yalda Foundation located in Germany and Tehran University of Medical Sciences came to an end by honoring 34 researchers in both basic and clinical medical sciences on October 27, 2011.
The 2nd International Congress on Recent Advances in Medical Sciences held on October 24-26, 2011 by Dr. Alireza Yalda Foundation, located in Germany, and Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) came to an end by honoring 34 researchers in both basic and clinical medical sciences at the National Museum of the History of Medicine in the evening of October 27, 2011.
Dr. Moslem Bahadori, the head of TUMS Alumni Office, evaluated achievement of the objectives of the congress as excellent especially in fields of medical genetics and stem cells. He called the introduced research results as novel and the researchers among the best n the world and hoped the congress could continue in coming years.
Thanking the participation of renowned Iranian-born researchers who reside in Germany, Professor Bahadori said the University and the TUMS AO were prepared to develop cooperation with Iranian researchers there.
Professor Alireza Ranjbar, the president of the congress, said about 50 top national and international researchers had participated in the three-day event and its 6 workshops.
Professor Ranjbar added that in the course of the congress, more than 30 research papers had been presented in the field of basic and clinical medicine and molecular biology. He said the nominees had been in five different categories.
The awards were given to 34 top researchers by Professor Bagher Larijani, TUMS Chancellor, and Professor Alireza Yalda, the founder of modern infectious diseases in Iran who is famous for his ethical practice of medicine and has evaded private practice to fully serve the patients in teaching hospitals.
Professor Yalda who recently got his distinguished professorship from TUMS Chancellor and an award from the Minister of Health, said “Today we have gathered to respect the kind of professorship which gives equal importance to science and ethics while teaching the students and scientific meetings like this one are of importance as they help humans grow spiritually”.
He later emphasized on teaching of ethics to students to guarantee the health of the society. He said if medical students approach the field for monetary advantages they seemingly would benefit but they would not attain the true success.
Having got their awards from the Chancellor or Professor Yalda, most awardees briefly took the podium to express their ideas and feelings.

TUMSPR News: At the commencement of the 2nd International Congress on Recent Advances in Medical Sciences, Professor Alireza Yalda’s lifelong achievement, ethical practice of medicine and teachings were honored by the Health Minister, TUMS Chancellor and a large number of academics on October 24, 2011.
Professor Alireza Yalda’s lifelong achievement, ethical practice of medicine and teachings were praised at the commencement of the 2nd International Congress on Recent Advances in Medical Sciences at Imam Khomeini Conference Hall under Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) in Tehran. The congress is held annually by Professor Alireza Yalda’s Academic Foundation. This year the participants included the Health Minister, Dr. Marzieh Vahid-dastjerdi, TUMS Chancellor, Dr. bagher Larijani and a large number of academics, residents and students on October 24, 2011.
Dr. Alireza Ranjbar, the congress president, on honoring Professor Yalda said, the professor’s unique characteristics pulled together all his enthusiasts among the authorities and academics inside and outside the country.
On the success of the Foundation, Dr. Ranjbar said by TUMS Chancellor’s supports the Foundation was gathering popularity and reputation nationally and internationally just three years of its foundation.
He then described the medals of Honor dedicated in five different categories to researchers and clinicians: innovation, young researchers, professional responsibility, distinguished professors and to internationally renowned figures.
In his speech on introducing the Alumni Office of the University, Professor Moslem Bahadori emphasized on the recognition of TUMS academics and researchers that had gained reputation for the institution in the world. He disclosed the Office’s intention to get in touch with more than 100 thousand alumni of the University haaving overcoe the obstacles in the early days of its establishing. At the present that the Office has a building of its own a bilingual website and branches in TUMS schools which have been made possible by the help of the Chancellor he said.
Honoring the elite professor of the University, TUMS Chancellor said alumni members like Professor Yalda were essential for the development of the institution. Recognizing Dr. Yalda as a model of education he said dignitaries such as Professor Bahadori, Professor Shams Tarighat Torbaghan, Professor Aghighi, etc were constellation of stars in the University who helped the University prosper in the past fifty years in education, research and new technologies. He called Professor Yalda a model for knowledge-oriented teaching.
Referring to the University’s 77 years of brilliant past history, the Minister of Health said that the graduates of TUMS were the founder of other universities in Iran and she personally was proud of being an alumnus of the Unuiversity.
On the importance of ethics the Minister said “We teach medicine to student but we know medical ethics is as important for the students and the universities”.
Finally, Professor Yalda gave his brief speech and described worst teachers as the ones who maintained the teacher-student relationship to his former students as they could not overtake him in knowledge. He likened a teacher to somebody who kept on helping children to safely land on the other bank of a river while they were moving up the ladder of science.
He later expressed his gratitude for the meeting and two plaques of appreciation and distinguished professorship were dedicated to him by the Minister and the Chancellor.

TUMSPR News: Nine faculty members of TUMS Digestive Diseases Research Institute will participate in the United European Gastroenterology Week held in Stockholm, Sweden, from October 22nd to 24th, 2011.
Based on the news by the Public Relations of the Digestive Diseases Research Institute (DDRI) affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), nine faculty members of the Institute will participate in the the United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW) which is the largest and the most recognized gastroenterology assembly in Europe. The assembly will be held in Stockholm, Sweden, from October 22nd to 24th, 2011.
DDRI researches actively participates in the assembly every year and submit scholarly articles to this congress. This year, 10 articles by 9 faculty members of DDRI will be presented in UEGW in the form of lectures or posters..

TUMSPR News: Nine faculty members of TUMS Digestive Diseases Research Institute will participate in the United European Gastroenterology Week held in Stockholm, Sweden, from October 22nd to 24th, 2011.
Based on the news by the Public Relations of the Digestive Diseases Research Institute (DDRI) affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), nine faculty members of the Institute will participate in the the United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW) which is the largest and the most recognized gastroenterology assembly in Europe. TUMSPR News: Professor Harry Malach and Dr. Elisabeth Kang, both from NIH, and Professor Hans Ochs from the University of Washington visited TUMS Children's Medical Center upon participating in the 4th Clinical Immunology and Immunodeficiency Congress and 23rd International Congress of Pediatrics held in Tehran, Iran on October 13-17, 2011.
According to the Public Relations of Children's Medical Center affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), Professor Harry Malach and Dr. Elisabeth Kang, both from NIH, and Professor Hans Ochs from the University of Washington visited TUMS Children's Medical Center upon attending the 4th Clinical immunology and Immunodeficiency Congress organized along with the 23rd International Congress of Pediatrics held in Tehran, Iran on October 13-17, 2011.
The group visited the Center and its research centers located in this hospital while discussing and emphasizing the importance of establishing a cell therapy unit there which is supposed to started in early 2012.
The group stated their will to continue their contact with this center and scientifically support the scientists and the research centers there for prospective collaborations.

TUMSPR News: TUMS Basic and Clinical Neuroscience and Hayat journals have been indexed in the Scopus database and DARU Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences in PubMed and PubMed Central in the year 2011.
Based on the report by the Office for the Promotion of TUMS Journals and Provision of Electronic Resources affiliated to the vice-chancellor for research, DARU Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences is the third journal of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) to be indexed in PubMed and PubMed Central. The published issues of the Journal in 2010 will be available on the aforesaid database next month. This journal is published by TUMS Faculty of Pharmacy.
Moreover, the Basic and Clinical Neuroscience and Hayat journals have been indexed in Scopus database in 2011.
TheBasic and Clinical Neuroscience journal is the 25th journal of the University that is indexed in Scopus. This journal is the first neuroscience journal in Iran that is indexed in the database. The second International Congress on the Latest Medical Research Achievements in the Honor of Professor Alireza Yalda, one of the distinguished professors of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) will be held at Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex in Tehran on October 24 to 26th, 2011.
The conference is a joint effort by TUMS Alumni Office, which is headed by Professor Moslem Bahadori, and Professor Alireza Yalda Foundation established by some of Iranian physicians and researchers living abroad. Some of TUMS research centers including the Nephrology Research Center have announced their participation in the congress.
The congress will be held by the attendance of TUMS Chancellor, Professor Bagher Larijani, and a large number of physicians and researchers from inside and outside Iran who have already registered in the congress.
The congress is an accredited one and certificates of attendance and different awards in different categories will be given to the best in the Research Festival which is to be held on 27th of October 2011.
